Thiaroye : Quand la gestion d'un compteur Woyofal envoie trois frères en prison
The power was out, but not the voltage. In Thiaroye, a minor dispute over a Woyofal meter escalated into a violent confrontation between four men. Stone throwing, injuries, cross-complaints, and medical certificates: the case ended up on the desk of the prosecutor at the Pikine-Guédiawaye High Court.
It all started with a power outage on Thursday, September 17th, around 6:00 a.m. H. Diallo, 35, a shopkeeper, the landlord's nephew, and the person in charge of rent collection, claims he was approached by F. Faye 1, 32, a mechanic, while going to the restroom. Faye asked him for the keypad of the Woyofal electricity meter to check the consumption level. When Diallo refused, an altercation ensued. Thanks to the intervention of neighbors, the two men were separated. The incident was thought to be over, but tensions remained high.
That same evening, around 11 p.m., the two groups met again in a local shop. H. Diallo then accused F. Faye 1 and his two brothers, F. Faye 2 (29 years old, a driver) and A. Faye (26 years old, a bricklayer), of having assaulted him. During this altercation, Diallo claims he was struck violently on the head with a stone by A. Faye.
Transported to the Pikine hospital, the trader was issued a medical certificate stating a temporary incapacity for work (ITT) of 21 days, before going to file a complaint with the gendarmerie.
Summoned by the gendarmes of the Thiaroye brigade, F. Faye 1 presented himself in turn with a medical certificate mentioning a 4-day ITT, then filed a complaint against H. Diallo, designating him as the instigator of the hostilities.
During his hearing, F. Faye 2 maintained that he only intervened to separate the combatants. His brother, A. Faye, admitted to throwing a stone at H. Diallo, claiming it was in retaliation.
After being questioned and taken into custody for mutual assault and battery, the four men—H. Diallo, F. Faye 1, F. Faye 2, and A. Faye—were brought before the Pikine-Guédiawaye prosecutor's office on Thursday, September 24. Following their hearing with the prosecutor, H. Diallo was granted provisional release, while the three Faye brothers were remanded in custody. The case will be heard on Monday, September 28, before the court for summary offenses.
