Thiès : Malgré les campagnes de sensibilisation et les sanctions, les dépôts de gravats persistent
In Thiès, the problems are worsening with rubble dumping on every street corner despite awareness campaigns and penalties. The head of the regional hygiene brigade, Chief Warrant Officer Damien Ndione, deplores the "persistence of such a practice despite inspections" and warns offenders.
According to him, some residents are dumping rubble from renovation work directly in front of their homes, unaware that this constitutes an offense under the Hygiene Code. "The brigade is conducting inspections and can issue fines," he warned. These penalties can reach up to 2 million CFA francs, he explained.
He continued: in case of non-payment, a prison sentence may also be imposed. After the offense is observed, a report can be sent to the public prosecutor. A formal notice is then issued ordering the offender to remove the rubble. A follow-up inspection verifies whether the order has been complied with.
The head of the regional hygiene brigade in Thiès reminds us that rubble constitutes waste which contributes to the obstruction of public roads.
