Thiès : Une bagarre entre deux gangs autour d'un vol de motos-Jakarta atterrit au tribunal
A case involving two groups of young people has landed in the Thiès court, stemming from the alleged theft of six Jakarta motorcycles and violent clashes. At the heart of the case are A. Mbow, a metal welder; A. Diop, a mechanic; and J. Mendy, a Jakarta motorcycle driver.
According to the evidence presented in court, A. Mbow left the Medina Fall neighborhood with several of his friends to go to the Parcelles-Assainies district of Thiès, in search of a motorcycle stolen from their group. They went to J. Mendy's home, but their search was unsuccessful.
When J. Mendy noticed the group at his home, he alerted his friends. This sparked an initial confrontation between the two groups. Police intervention separated the two sides.
But the matter didn't end there. During the night, around 2 a.m., A. Mbow's group returned to Parcelles-Assainies to attack the opposing camp. During this second confrontation, six Jakarta motorcycles, allegedly belonging to members of J. Mendy's group, were stolen. Another fight then broke out between the two groups. A. Mbow was seriously injured during this brawl.
Alerted, the Parcelles-Assainies police intervened to disperse the two groups. They then arrested A. Mbow, who accused J. Mendy and his gang of causing his injuries, which resulted in a 25-day period of temporary incapacity for work. A. Diop, described as a member of J. Mendy's group, was also arrested, as was J. Mendy, who was later released on bail.
In the dock of the Thiès court for flagrant offenses, A. Mbow stated that he had participated in the first fight, but denied taking part in the second. He explained that he was arrested by the police while passing through.
A. Diop stated that he was at a "Jakarta bus stop" when J. Mendy called them, claiming that individuals had broken into his home. He maintained that he was assaulted and injured by A. Mbow's gang.
For his part, J. Mendy, a motorcycle taxi driver from Jakarta, is being prosecuted for assault and battery resulting in a 25-day incapacity for work against A. Mbow. He maintained that it was A. Mbow and his group who attacked him at his home.
The public prosecutor requested the application of the law. The court adjourned the case for deliberation.
