Tivaouane-Peulh: Drunk student threatens to kill his mother with a knife

A swift intervention by law enforcement prevented a family tragedy in the town of Tivaouane-Peulh. On September 17, 2026, officers from the local police station took MB, a 22-year-old student, into custody. The young man is being prosecuted for serious acts of violence, assault, and making death threats against a family member.

The investigation began when Mrs. KN appeared at the gendarmerie premises to express her explicit desire to take legal action against her son, MB. Exasperated, vulnerable and distraught in the face of a situation that had become out of control, the mother filed a letter of complaint in order to obtain the immediate intervention of Commander Sow.

In his statement, KN explains that his son becomes extremely violent whenever he is drunk. During these aggressive outbursts, MB arms himself with a knife and makes direct death threats against his mother, while terrorizing other family members, according to Seneweb sources.

The complainant emphasized to investigators that this was the umpteenth time she had been subjected to such insults, violence, and assault. However, the repeated use of a bladed weapon and the seriousness of the explicit threats prompted her to demand strict enforcement of the law before the worst happened or before her son carried out his threats.

Having been informed of the case, the gendarmes immediately took action. Having learned of the suspect's presence in the streets of the Abou KA neighborhood, the officers quickly dispatched him to the scene. This swift response allowed them to arrest MB in the middle of the night, around 11 p.m.

After being formally informed of his rights while in police custody, MB admitted to a change in his behavior. In his defense, he claimed to have acted under the influence of alcohol. Acknowledging the seriousness of the charges against him, he begged his mother for forgiveness and requested leniency from the court.

Following the investigation and its conclusion, the 22-year-old suspect was brought before Prosecutor Cheikh Diakhoumpa, head of the Rufisque prosecutor's office. After reviewing the entire case file, the magistrate ordered his detention.
