Vol d’un cheval et d’une charrette : un individu condamné à deux ans de prison
Charged with stealing a horse and cart in Dakar, a man named AC appeared before the High Court of Kaffrine. The events date back to when the defendant stole the cart from the Acapes property in Parcelles Assainies, before heading towards Missira Wadène, in the Kaffrine region, with the intention of selling his loot there.
In court, AC readily admitted to all the charges. According to his own statements, he drove the horse-drawn carriage across the country from Dakar to Missira Wadène, a journey of four days on foot. Once he arrived in the Kaffrine region, he contacted his friend OS to help him find a buyer.
The two men attempted to resell the cart at the local market for the paltry sum of 20,000 CFA francs. However, the ridiculously low price and the men's behavior quickly aroused the suspicions of the merchants and residents, who alerted the police. The two accomplices were apprehended on the spot before they could complete the sale.
At the end of the proceedings, the court found AC guilty of theft and sentenced him to two years in prison, along with a fine of 500,000 CFA francs. His accomplice, OS, prosecuted for complicity in the theft, received a three-month prison sentence.
