Yeumbeul: A man arrested after stealing an iPhone 17 Pro Max worth 680,000 CFA francs

On September 22, 2026, the Yeumbeul district police station arrested an individual suspected of being involved in a case of criminal association and robbery committed with the use of a means of transport.

The case stems from a complaint filed by a user who reported the theft of his mobile phone, an iPhone 17 Pro Max valued at approximately 680,000 CFA francs. The incident occurred on Friday, September 18, at approximately 11:00 PM.

While driving his vehicle near Camp Leclerc, not far from the Liberté 6 roundabout, the complainant was allegedly approached by two individuals on two motorcycles, a Jakarta and a Honda. The driver of the Honda motorcycle allegedly deliberately scratched the victim's vehicle, creating the impression of a traffic accident.

A diversion that would have allowed his accomplice, on his Jakarta motorcycle, to take advantage of the driver's inattention to steal the mobile phone from the car before fleeing.

Technical investigations conducted by the police led them to the suspect's home. A search of his bedroom reportedly uncovered a bag containing three high-end mobile phones: a gray iPhone 13 Pro Max, described as locked, a gold iPhone 16 Pro Max, also locked, and the blue iPhone 17 Pro Max, which was allegedly stolen from the victim.

When questioned briefly by investigators, the suspect reportedly denied the charges against him. He allegedly stated that he had acquired the phones at the Thiaroye market.

Another piece of evidence added to the case: the Jakarta motorcycle recovered during the investigation was reportedly formally identified by the complainant as the one used in the robbery. The suspect has been taken into custody.

The investigation continues in order to identify and arrest his alleged accomplice, who is still at large, but also to determine the origin of the two other phones seized.
