Arabie saoudite : La fédération de football réagit aux chants odieux visant Diogo Jota
Controversy is growing in Saudi Arabia after fans chanted slogans referencing the death of Portuguese international Diogo Jota. The Saudi Arabian Football Federation and the Saudi Pro League have strongly condemned this behavior, calling it "unacceptable."
The incident occurred Sunday evening during the match between Al-Taawoun and Al-Hilal. Supporters chanted slogans targeting Ruben Neves, a former teammate and close friend of Diogo Jota, who tragically died at the age of 28 in July 2025.
Deeply affected by these provocations, the Portuguese midfielder did not hide his indignation after the match. "I just hope they don't go to pray after what they did," he declared, denouncing remarks he considered particularly disrespectful.
The incident quickly sparked numerous reactions. Cristiano Ronaldo, Neves' teammate on the Portuguese national team, also broke his silence to strongly condemn the chants targeting his compatriot and referencing the death of Diogo Jota.

For its part, Al-Hilal has taken an unambiguous stance. The Saudi club has "categorically" rejected such behavior, particularly when it targets players, their families, or infringes upon their personal lives.
Al-Hilal also announced that it had officially contacted the Saudi Football Federation to defend the interests of the club and its players.
In response to the scale of the controversy, the Saudi Football Federation and the Saudi Pro League reiterated their commitment to combating this type of disorder in stadiums. This case could now lead to sanctions against the fans involved.
