Espagne : la FIFA sévit après les chants islamophobes contre l’Égypte
The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) is under scrutiny from FIFA. The world governing body has fined the Spanish federation $20,000 and imposed a partial stadium closure for the next La Roja match organized under its auspices. This sanction follows the Islamophobic chants heard during the friendly match between Spain and Egypt, played on March 31 in Barcelona, which ended in a goalless draw (0-0).
According to Sky Sports, FIFA's decision comes after incidents at the Cornellà-El Prat stadium, where some Spanish fans chanted anti-Muslim slogans. Among the offending chants was "Whoever doesn't jump is a Muslim," sparking widespread outrage.
The incident quickly sparked widespread condemnation in Spain. Lamine Yamal denounced the disrespectful and intolerable behavior, while Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez strongly condemned the actions. Other Spanish internationals, such as Pedri, also spoke out against these excesses, calling for a stronger fight against racism and discrimination in stadiums.
FIFA opened an investigation in early April to examine the facts. The announced sanction thus marks a disciplinary response to the incidents that occurred during this international match. It also underscores the world governing body's commitment to combating discriminatory behavior in football.
