«Facho», «raciste» : le footballeur Estéban Lepaul ciblé par une vague d'insultes pour avoir clamé son amour de la France
Stade Rennais striker Esteban Lepaul has been the target of numerous insults on social media after expressing his love for France following his first call-up to the French national team.
A first notable call-up to the French national team. At 26 years old, Estéban Lepaul is among the players called up by the new coach of Les Bleus, Zinédine Zidane, for the Nations League matches scheduled from September 25 to October 5.
On this occasion, the Stade Rennais striker, and top scorer in the league last season, was interviewed, notably expressing his love for France.

"I love France. I love my country. France is beautiful, our culture is so great. I love France for its history, I love this country," he told the cameras, before going back to an anecdote where he explained that he had been "singing the Marseillaise all day" since he was very young.
Criticism and support
The video quickly went viral on social media, with numerous messages of congratulations, but also insults and criticism directed at Estéban Lepaul. "The fascist lol, he must have voted for Zemmour," "Yeah, he's just a racist," "He ate a ham and butter sandwich at every meal," were among the comments in response to the video posted by Stade Rennais.
Some internet users defended the French striker, notably attacking those who criticized him: "France, the only country in the world where when you say you're proud to be French, you're called a fascist," "He loves his country, nothing more."
So that's where we are.
A player is selected for the French national team and proclaims his love for France; he is insulted with all sorts of names on social media.

On the political front, several voices have been raised, including that of National Rally Senator Aymeric Durox. "A player selected for the French national team proclaims his love for France, and he is insulted with every name under the sun on social media. A famous swimmer says on television that he refuses to take a political stance, and he is insulted with every name under the sun. [...] Lucas Digne concedes a penalty during the World Cup semi-final, and he is insulted with every name under the sun. What do they have in common? They are white and therefore automatically suspected and guilty," he denounced, recalling the recent case of Léon Marchand.
