Faux certificats Covid : Granit Xhaka visé par une enquête en Suisse
Swiss national team captain Granit Xhaka is under investigation by authorities in his country in a case involving alleged fake Covid certificates. According to the Swiss daily newspaper "Blick," the Sunderland midfielder is suspected of using forged documents during the pandemic.
Aged 33, Xhaka is a major figure in Swiss football and an experienced Premier League player. But this case could temporarily keep him off the pitch while he answers questions from the authorities.
The Lucerne public prosecutor's office has opened an investigation, and the player is expected to be questioned by authorities in early October. At this stage, no guilt has been established, and the Swiss national team captain fully benefits from the presumption of innocence.
If found guilty of the charges against him, Granit Xhaka could face up to five years in prison, according to reports by "Blick".
When questioned about this procedure, the Swiss international remained very brief: "I have no comment on this. I played football today and that's what matters to me right now. Not at all. I've experienced worse."
For the time being, the player is therefore continuing his sporting activities while the investigation continues in Switzerland.
