"Gatandou" JOJ à Saly : Ibrahima Wade appelle à faire de Dakar 2026 un événement qui écrit une histoire
In Saly, the activities organized as part of the "Gatandou JOJ" brought together young people and the local population around sport, culture, and Olympic values. Indeed, just a few weeks before the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, the city of Saly is demonstrating its commitment to fully participating in this historic event.
The general coordinator of the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games Organizing Committee, Ibrahima Wade, addressed a special message to the youth of Saly. For the COJOJ general coordinator, the stakes go far beyond the realm of sport. The goal is to make Dakar 2026 an event whose impact and legacy will have a lasting impact on the region and its youth.
“These Games are yours. Seize this opportunity to get involved, learn, meet the world and uphold the values of excellence, friendship, respect and solidarity that underpin the Olympic ideal. Together, let’s make Dakar 2026 an event that makes history. An event that we will fully experience and whose legacy will continue to benefit our territories and our youth,” he declared.
Bacary Sarr, Minister of Communication and Relations with Institutions, Government Spokesperson, praised the mobilization seen in Saly. According to him, this initiative sends "a strong message to Senegal, to Africa and to the entire world".
He stressed that the youth of Saly are ready to welcome the Youth Olympic Games with "pride, responsibility and unwavering commitment".
The minister also recalled the historic significance of Dakar 2026. For the first time, the Youth Olympic Games will be held on the African continent, placing Senegal at the center of attention for the international sports movement.
Beyond the competition, the Youth Olympic Games are presented as a project of international influence, citizen mobilization, and commitment for an entire generation. Bacary Sarr particularly praised the mobilization recorded in Saly, believing that the city had "brilliantly risen to the challenge."
The organization, the diversity of activities offered and the strong involvement of youth were highlighted as signs of the population's support for the Youth Olympic Games dynamic.
The "Gatandou JOJ" notably made it possible to combine sport, culture and entertainment, with a program including MMA demonstrations, bakou and various popular activities.
However, the preparation is not limited to the festivities. Young citizens of Saly also received training from the General Directorate of the National Police in order to participate as volunteers in ensuring the success of the event.
An approach which, according to the minister, reflects the very spirit of the Games: to train, empower, transmit and prepare young people for the challenges of tomorrow.
Speaking directly to young people, Bacary Sarr stressed their central role in the success of Dakar 2026.
“You are our country’s greatest asset. You are its energy. You are its future. In Senegal, more than three-quarters of the population are young people. This means that our present and our future depend largely on your commitment, your creativity, your sense of responsibility, and your patriotism. The Youth Olympic Games were designed for you. They belong to you. I therefore invite you to fully embrace them. Be the first ambassadors of the YOG. Show the world the face of a dynamic, disciplined, welcoming, innovative Senegalese youth, proud of its identity,” he declared.
According to him, Senegalese hospitality (Teranga) must also be on hand to welcome the delegations and visitors expected in the country.
The mobilization should continue in the coming weeks with several initiatives, including the Olympic flame tour.

Mbour, saly et somone sont plus que dales..
1) l'arrivée à l'aéroport : il est souvent remarqué que les voyageurs prennent beaucoup de temps pour passer le contrôle des passeports. Il conviendra de renforcer fortement la présence des agents chargés de faire ce contrôle car certains athlètes viennent de très loin et la longue attente n'est pas agréable;
Quelque chose manque encore. Mais on vous encourage
Rien n'est encore perdu. Que toute la population se mobilise parce que c'est le Sénégal qui accueille le monde, pas l'équipe chargée de la préparation des JOJ. Aidons notre pays à réussir le pari
Entendu! Mr Ibrahima Wade.
