JOJ Dakar 2026 : Thiès prépare activement le passage de la Flamme olympique
The Thiès region is preparing to host the caravan of the Flame of the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games (YOG). In the lead-up to this sporting and cultural event, scheduled for September 29, the Thiès Governance held a Regional Development Committee (CRD) meeting on Tuesday dedicated to the preparations.
The meeting provided an opportunity to review the program as well as the various organizational arrangements for this Thiessian stage.
The program includes a large caravan through the streets of the city of Thiès, before a cultural ceremony that will conclude the festivities at the Promenade des Thiessois.
Presiding over the CRD, the deputy governor of Thiès, Ababacar Sadikh Niang, called for a strong mobilization of all actors and populations of the region.
He invited local authorities, state services, sports and cultural stakeholders, as well as the general public, to fully embrace the event.
"Let's make this event our own," he declared, calling on everyone to contribute to the success of the mobilization effort surrounding the passage of the Olympic Flame through Thiès.
