Lions du Sénégal : « Il faut proposer un autre football »
The results are positive, but the team's performance still needs improvement. For Patrick Vieira, the new coach of the Lions of Senegal, there is still significant work to be done to raise the national team's level of play. In an interview with the national daily newspaper Le Soleil, he expressed satisfaction with the four points earned in the away matches against Ethiopia and Mozambique, as well as the 1-0 friendly victory against Comoros. However, he believes the team still needs to improve its collective expression.
To explain the difficulties to overcome, Pape Thiaw's successor points to the results recorded before his arrival: "We must also remember that if we look at the last six or seven matches of the national team before my arrival, we see that there were very few victories, many defeats and few draws. The spiral was therefore more negative than positive."
The coach now intends to give the Lions a more attacking identity. "Senegal is among the best teams in Africa and must play a different style of football: a much more aggressive, much more offensive style," he insists. His objective is to see the national team create more chances, score more goals, and go for the win. He acknowledges, however, that implementing this project will take time, particularly to rebuild confidence and establish a true playing identity.
