Manchester City menacé de sanction : Roy Keane veut voir les médailles des Citizens finir à la poubelle
The financial scandal involving Manchester City continues to generate reactions in the football world. While the English club is still awaiting news of any potential sanctions related to the alleged breaches between 2009 and 2018, Roy Keane has taken a particularly strong stance.
The former Manchester United captain, City's arch-rivals, believes that Manchester City players who won trophies during that period should renounce their medals. The former Ireland international argues that the Manchester club's successes are directly tainted by the accusations against him. "If I were a player, I would 100% throw those medals in the bin. Of course I would," Keane told ITV Sport.
The former midfielder went even further, describing the practices Manchester City is accused of as cheating. "It's cheating. They won on the pitch because there was cheating. They knew it would hurt a lot of people, but they did it anyway," he added.
Manchester City, found guilty of breaching Premier League financial rules according to the aforementioned case, is still awaiting a decision regarding sanctions. The club has also announced its intention to appeal.
Roy Keane's comments have thus reignited the debate on the value of the titles won by the Citizens during the period in question, while the procedure has not yet delivered its final conclusion.
