Manchester City s'impose au bout d'un match fou contre Sunderland et prend seul la tête de la Premier League, Cherki et Le Fée brillent
Manchester City prevailed against Sunderland after a very spectacular match featuring Enzo Le Fée in his finest attire and a goal from Rayan Cherki.
Manchester City secured a hard-fought victory against a superb Sunderland side (5-3), unfortunately hampered by some costly defensive errors, on Sunday. City capitalized on Arsenal's defeat at Brighton (0-3) the previous day to take sole possession of first place in the Premier League after a thrilling match marked by the individual brilliance of both teams.
Enzo Le Fée deserves special mention for his exceptional passes leading to Brian Brobbey's first two goals: the first between two defenders directly to the striker (1-1, 12th minute), and the second, a cleverly disguised pass to Thomas Meunier in the box (2-2, 37th minute). A pure delight. Zinedine Zidane will certainly be keeping a close eye on the midfield. The French national team coach also received confirmation of Rayan Cherki's form; while not particularly brilliant in open play, he proved a sharpshooter at a crucial moment when City were struggling to make an impact.
The former Lyon player capitalized on a poor clearance by Kévin Danso and a subsequent scramble to give his team the lead (2-1, 29th minute). Enzo Fernandez had opened the scoring for City from a free-kick conceded by Dayann Métalhie – making his debut in this league – and poorly dealt with by Robin Roefs, the Sunderland goalkeeper (1-0, 9th minute).
Major success for Pierre Sage with Crystal Palace
In this attacking onslaught, Antoine Semenyo capitalized on another scramble in the box to fire a shot between Danso's legs, scoring the third goal (3-2, 43rd minute). Moments later, Erling Haaland missed the target after a generous pass from Iliman Ndiaye (45th minute).
Early in the second half, Semenyo thought he had given City a decisive lead (4-2, 57th minute), but Brobbey bagged his third goal following a phenomenal penultimate pass from Xhaka (4-3, 59th minute). However, despite a strong collective performance, Sunderland conceded a final goal from Haaland, his first against this team in his career, and the only one against whom he had not scored in the Premier League (5-3, 83rd minute).
Premier League standings
City could breathe a sigh of relief. Pierre Sage perhaps could too. Under immense pressure this week, he secured a draw with Crystal Palace at Leeds (0-0) which could save his job after an important Europa League victory against Poznan (4-0) on Thursday.
