Messi marque son 100e mais avec l'Inter Miami et gagne un nouveau trophée
Lionel Messi is unstoppable: the Argentinian scored his 100th goal on Wednesday, but in the colors of Inter Miami, to give his team the Campeones Cup at the expense of Cruz Azul (2-0).
At 39, he was, once again, the man of the hour in a duel that pits the winner of the North American football championship (MLS) against the winner of the Mexican championship every year.
He opened the scoring with a header from close range in the 24th minute, from a pass by his former Barça teammate Luis Suarez, thus scoring his 100th goal in 115 games with Inter Miami, in all competitions.
As if by a twist of fate, he had scored his first goal with the Florida team against the same club, Cruz Azul, with a free kick in early July 2023.
To get on the scoreboard on Wednesday, he provided an assist from a corner to Brazilian Casemiro in the 81st minute (2-0).
"We have to take advantage of it, because we don't know how long it will last. What he has done and continues to do for football is simply incredible (...). He remains the best, he proved it at the World Cup and he continues to prove it in MLS," said the former Real Madrid player after the match, captivated by his teammate.
After a dazzling World Cup (8 goals from Messi) where the Argentinian lost in the final, the "Pulga" is on the right track this year for a ninth Ballon d'Or.
He announced his international retirement at the end of August and will play his last match with the Albiceleste on October 6, in Buenos Aires.
