Mondial 2026 : France, Norvège, Belgique... Les bourreaux des Lions s'invitent en quarts de finale
The three teams that beat Senegal at the World Cup continue their journey. France, Norway, and Belgium have all qualified for the quarterfinals, which begin this Thursday, thus confirming their status as serious contenders for the world title.
France, the World Cup runners-up, began their tournament with a 3-1 victory against Pape Thiaw's Lions. Since then, Les Bleus have racked up four more wins against Iraq (3-0), Norway (4-1), Sweden (3-0), and Paraguay (1-0). In the quarterfinals, they will face Morocco, whom they eliminated in the semifinals of the previous World Cup.
Norway also confirmed their rise to prominence. Victorious against Senegal (3-2) in the decisive Group I match, the Scandinavians have only suffered one defeat, against France. Led by a decisive Erling Haaland, who scored twice against Brazil (2-1) in the round of 16, they will face England for a place in the semi-finals.
Belgium completes the trio of teams that have eliminated the Lions still in contention. After knocking out Senegal (3-2) in a thrilling match, the Red Devils comfortably defeated the United States (4-1), one of the co-host countries. Youri Tielemans and his teammates will face Lamine Yamal's Spain in the quarterfinals.
