Real Madrid : Claude Makélélé tire la sonnette d’alarme après le derby
Real Madrid is already going through a turbulent period at the start of this season. Defeated by Atlético Madrid (1-2) in the derby, Los Blancos suffered their second La Liga loss and now trail their arch-rivals, FC Barcelona, the league leaders, by six points. This situation is drawing criticism, including from former club legends.
Claude Makélélé didn't mince words when discussing the current difficulties of the Madrid team. The former French international, who played for Real Madrid, believes that the players are showing a clear lack of cohesion and collective understanding.
“There is no understanding. Neither between the players nor with the coach,” Makélélé told ESPN, before continuing with a particularly harsh assessment: “The team is weak, there is no game plan or clear ideas. There is nothing. Nothing, nothing, nothing… Absolutely nothing.”
For the former midfielder, the problem therefore goes beyond the simple result of the Madrid derby. He points in particular to the lack of a true collective identity and calls on the players to raise their standards. "We must demand more from them," he added.
This statement comes as Real Madrid needs to react quickly to avoid letting FC Barcelona pull further ahead in the standings. Having already suffered two defeats in La Liga, the Merengues are under pressure and will have to find solutions to regain stability and revive their season.
