When questioned about Sadio Mané 's absence , Patrick Vieira provided details on the Senegalese striker's situation. The new Lions coach confirmed that he had spoken directly with the player.
“Sadio, whom I spoke to on the phone, has a physical problem and that’s why he won’t be with us for this gathering. But he will surely be with us for the next one,” Vieira explained.
The coach was also questioned about the financial aspects of his appointment. On this point, he preferred to emphasize the sporting and personal reasons that led him to accept the position.
"My choice was truly one of the heart and not one of finance," he stated.
Patrick Vieira explains that he quickly accepted the proposal from the Senegalese Football Federation after his first exchange with the president.
"From the first meeting I had with the president, I immediately accepted this challenge," he said.
For the former French international, the presence of a generation of high-level Senegalese players and the opportunity to pass on his experience weighed heavily in his decision.
"There was such an exceptional generation of players coming through and there was a real opportunity for me to bring my experience from the very highest level," he added.
Vieira thus assures that his priority is clear: to put his experience at the service of the Lions and to build this new project alongside the Federation.
