Tournoi UFOA-A U17 : Gambie écarte le Liberia et retrouve le Sénégal en finale
Senegal and Gambia will meet in the final of the WAFU-A U17 tournament. After the Young Lions qualified, having dominated Guinea (3-0), Gambia won the Anglophone duel against Liberia (2-1) on Thursday, thus securing their place in the final and the U17 AFCON.
The young Gambians quickly took the lead. Alieu Saine opened the scoring in the 14th minute with a magnificent left-footed volley.
Despite this advantage, Liberia looked dangerous and created several clear chances. In the 41st minute, the Liberians were awarded a penalty, but the young striker tasked with taking it missed the opportunity to equalize, sending the ball against the crossbar.
After the break, Liberia increased the pressure and launched numerous attacks. But Gambia proved more clinical. In the 66th minute, Omar Badjie doubled the lead, giving his team a significant advantage in the race for qualification.
Trailing 2-0, Liberia refused to give up. Their persistence paid off in the 77th minute when substitute Lamin Kamara pulled one back.
In the final ten minutes, Liberia created a multitude of chances but failed to equalize. Gambia ultimately held onto their lead and won 2-1.
The young Scorpions will therefore face Senegal on Sunday in the final for the title of the WAFU-A U17 tournament.
