Senegal now knows the composition of its group for the upcoming WAFU-A U20 tournament. The draw for the competition, held this Thursday, October 1st in Mali, placed the Young Lions in Group B, alongside Mauritania, Sierra Leone and Guinea-Bissau.

Eight nations will participate in this edition, divided into two groups of four teams. The tournament is scheduled from October 15 to 31 in Mali, which will host the competition.

As defending champions after their victory at the previous edition held in Liberia in 2024, Senegal were among the top seeds. Malick Daf's men will therefore have to face three opponents to try and retain their title and continue their dominance in the WAFU-A zone.

In the other group, Group A will include Mali, the host country and also the top seed, Guinea, Liberia, and Gambia. This matchup also promises a fierce battle for the two qualifying spots for the semi-finals.

While awaiting the start of the tournament, the Young Lions are continuing their preparations. Senegal is scheduled to play two friendly matches against the Democratic Republic of Congo on October 1st and 4th at the Léopold Sédar Senghor Stadium. These two matches will allow the coaching staff to fine-tune their tactics before traveling to Mali. As defending champions, Senegal will approach this new campaign with the ambition of retaining their title.
