Transfert à l’étranger : Le championnat sénégalais se vide de ses talents
The summer transfer window continues to shake up the Senegalese football landscape. Just weeks before the start of the 2026-2027 season, Ligue 1 clubs are seeing several of their best players leave for foreign leagues. This trend confirms the growing appeal of players trained in Senegal, but it also risks weakening the level of the local competition.
With less than two months to go before the start of the 2026-2027 season, the Senegalese league continues its exodus of talent. Buoyed by their performances last season, several of Ligue 1's best players have chosen to take on a new challenge abroad, leaving their respective clubs facing a major rebuilding project.
The most decorated club in Senegal, Jaraaf of Dakar, will have to do without its best striker, Almamy Mathew Fall. After a fine season, the forward has signed with USM Khenchela, a top-flight Algerian club. This departure deprives the Medina-based club of one of its main attacking assets before the start of the new domestic campaign.
The Senegalese runners-up, AJEL of Rufisque, have also been hit hard. The club has lost its playmaker, Ousmane Yéri Diakhaté, who has signed with Étoile du Sahel in Tunisia. El Hadj Malick Sarr followed suit, joining Al Wasl in the United Arab Emirates, thus confirming the club's ability to develop players sought after on the international market.
Having qualified for the CAF Confederation Cup, Diambars will also face a significant challenge. The Saly academy will compete without its captain, Vieux Yankhoba Diallo, who transferred to FK Bylis in Albania. The left-back's departure represents a major loss, both on the pitch and in terms of leadership.
Casa Sports has also been affected by this wave of departures. The Ziguinchor club has seen its striker Ansumana Samura sign with Al Hilal of Sudan, a transfer that deprives the southern team of a key attacking player.
At AS Pikine, young Ibrahima Dieng continues his rise. Considered one of the club's most promising prospects, he will now play for Ittihad Riadi of Tangier, in Morocco.
As is often the case, Génération Foot is among the clubs most active in this transfer window. A true benchmark in youth development, Déni Birame Ndao's academy is seeing several of its promising young players take flight. Goalkeeper Vincent Gomis and striker Abdourahmane Mbodj are joining FC Metz, while midfielder Joseph Namatan has signed with Bandırmaspor in Turkey.
Departures continue with midfielder Mactar Fall and defender Ibrahima Diallo, who will now play for Egersunds IK in Norway. Finally, Cristiano Justino Cabo has signed with FC Hebar 1918 Pazardzhik in Bulgaria.
In the North, Linguère de Saint-Louis loses its striker Ibrahima Diop who has signed with the Red Bulls of Mozambique.
While these transfers demonstrate the quality of Senegalese training and the growing interest of foreign clubs in local players, they also highlight the difficulties Senegalese clubs face in retaining their best talent. As the new season approaches, several teams will need to rebuild their squads with the ambition of remaining competitive on both the national and continental stages.
