Villarreal : Pape Guèye encore marqué par la débâcle face au PSG
The humiliating defeat against Paris Saint-Germain continues to haunt Pape Gueye. Heavily beaten 6-0, Gueye and Villarreal endured a nightmarish Champions League evening. For the Senegalese international, this match will remain particularly painful, as it was the heaviest defeat of his career.
In the aftermath of this humiliation, the midfielder made no secret of his dismay. Still reeling from the shock, the former Olympique de Marseille player spent part of the night trying to understand how his team could have collapsed so spectacularly. He even spent time reviewing the match footage with the club's video analyst.
"I didn't sleep much because we're trying to understand what happened. It was the first time this had happened to me, it's the first time I've conceded six goals in a match," he told DAZN.
The Senegalese international also attempted to explain Villarreal's difficulties against PSG's movement and attacking organization. According to him, the danger didn't come solely from PSG's midfielders, but from the Parisians' collective ability to create numerous attacking runs and destabilize the Spanish defense.
"It wasn't just the midfielders who were moving around a bit, it was a collective effort. There were times when Hakimi was next to me, or other times the young Mayulu. In terms of movement, they really knew how to move," he analyzed.
A particularly tough defeat to swallow for Pape and his teammates, who conceded four goals in just eight minutes. A real lesson learned against a PSG side whose collective movements severely tested Villarreal's organization.
