Gambie : le plan de numérotation téléphonique passe à 9 chiffres à partir du 4 septembre
In an official statement, Sonatel informs its valued customers that the Republic of The Gambia will switch to a new national numbering plan starting this Friday, September 4, 2026, at midnight (00:00). The incumbent operator indicates that Gambian telephone numbers will now have 9 digits instead of 7 for most telecommunications networks.
According to details provided by Sonatel, users calling Gambia will have to add two new identification digits after the country code (+220), depending on the recipient's operator.

The statement also clarifies that the Gamtel and Gamcel networks are not affected by this measure and will retain their current 7-digit numbering plan. To avoid any disruption to communications, Sonatel emphasizes that both numbering plans (old and new) will coexist until November 30, 2026.
