A police officer used his weapon Monday in New York's Times Square, a popular tourist area, against a woman who had just stabbed two people, according to local media. Later that evening, it was reported that one of the two people stabbed had died from their injuries in the hospital. The assailant also died from gunshot wounds inflicted by police.

According to images circulating on social media, the assailant is a woman in her forties, clearly psychologically unstable. Identified as Pamela Cisneros, a resident of Queens, she pulled two large knives from a bag at a well-known supermarket chain before threatening passersby in broad daylight, according to New York Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch.

She then approached a 68-year-old man, whom she stabbed in the abdomen. Twenty seconds later, she attacked a 32-year-old woman, also stabbing her in the stomach. It was this woman who died; the man is hospitalized in stable condition. Their identities have not been released pending notification of their families.

"She ran past me."

After several seconds of threatening about ten police officers standing in front of her, she advanced towards them. One of the officers attempted to tase her, but she continued to move forward. At that moment, two gunshots were heard, and she collapsed to the ground.

“She ran past me around the corner with two knives in her hands,” a witness told PIX11 News. He said that shortly afterward, police officers used a Taser on her. Despite this, she rushed at them, and that’s when they shot her “twice,” he recounted.

The area was closed to traffic and pedestrian access. The city's mayor, Zohran Mamdani, visited the scene in the evening.
