Chômage des jeunes : Thiès mise sur l'entrepreneuriat pour relever le défi de l'insertion
Administrative authorities and development actors in Thiès met today at a Regional Development Committee (CRD) meeting dedicated to the Yaakaar Youth and Entrepreneurship (YEAH) project.
Presiding over the meeting, the Deputy Governor of the Thiès region, Ababacar Sadikh Niang, emphasized that youth constitute Senegal's greatest asset, but also one of its biggest challenges in terms of professional integration. He pointed out that nearly 75% of the Senegalese population is under 35, while in the Thiès region, 62% of residents are under 25.
According to him, this high proportion of young people necessitates strengthening public policies in favor of training, support, and the creation of economic opportunities. "These young people are calling on the authorities to pay more attention to their concerns regarding education, training, guidance, and especially support for their socio-economic integration," he stated.
The authority announces that this project aims to promote young people's access to employment and entrepreneurship by focusing on high-potential sectors such as agriculture, livestock farming, fishing, agri-food, industry, processing, marketing and digital technology.
Beyond training, Ababacar Sadikh Niang emphasizes that this program provides support for young entrepreneurs in accessing financing, coaching for high-potential project leaders, promoting their products and services, and strengthening local value chains.
The administrative authority also advocates for the promotion of reforms that support youth employment, particularly in the agricultural sector.
The stated objectives in this regard are ambitious: to raise awareness and guide 800,000 young people towards economic opportunities, to support 60 actors in value chains, including a majority of young women, to support 12 local champions and to promote at least 32 young agricultural entrepreneurs in order to facilitate their access to markets.
For the Thiès region, the Deputy Governor announces the rehabilitation of the Youth Space, which will become a local framework dedicated to information, guidance and support for young project leaders.
Believing that youth employment is crucial for both development and social stability, Ababacar Sadikh Niang called on government agencies, local authorities, youth organizations, and partners to join forces to ensure the success of this initiative. He believes that only collective action will provide young people with better job prospects and opportunities to start their own businesses, while also contributing to the sustainable economic development of the Thiès region.
