Dépôts anarchiques d’ordures à Grand-Thialy : les riverains tirent la sonnette d’alarme
Residents of the Grand-Thialy neighborhood in Thiès have taken a stand to denounce the illegal dumping of garbage in their area. Gathering today to express their anger, they are calling on local authorities to find an urgent solution to this situation, which they consider alarming.
François Ndione, spokesperson for the residents, explained that the population has been raising the alarm about this phenomenon for several months without receiving a satisfactory response.
“Since March, we have been denouncing the dumping of garbage in our neighborhood. We have contacted the local authorities, but so far nothing has been done. That is why we decided to hold this demonstration to draw more attention to this problem,” he said.
According to him, Grand-Thialy has always been a clean neighborhood and its residents refuse to allow it to be transformed into an open-air dump.
Residents believe that the presence of these piles of garbage near their homes poses a threat to public health. They are particularly concerned about the spread of disease, the nuisance of foul odors, and the safety risks that such an environment can create.
“We will not accept people dumping their waste next to our homes. This situation exposes the population to numerous health risks,” insisted François Ndione.
Residents point out that the city of Thiès has areas for waste management and find it incomprehensible that garbage is being dumped in an inhabited area.
Faced with this situation, they are making an urgent appeal to the administrative and municipal authorities to take the necessary measures to put an end to these illegal dumps and preserve the living environment of the people of Grand-Thialy.
