Finale de la zone 8A de Cambérène : Le parrain Doune Pathé Mbengue salue l’esprit de fair-play des équipes et rassure la jeunesse dakaroise
It was with fair play that the grand final of zone 8A of Cambérène was played on Sunday, October 4, at the municipal stadium of Parcelles assainies of Dakar, under the effective presidency of the sponsor, Doune Pathé Mbengue, mayor of Cambérène and Director General of the Autonomous Port of Dakar.
Yesterday, the Parcelles Assainies municipal stadium resonated with the excitement of the Navétanes tournament, featuring two Zone 8A finals that were fiercely contested but played in a spirit of fair play. These were the cadet final between ASC Diamaguène and Jappo, and the senior final between Jappo and Deggo.
The first match was played in the rain with a score of 1-0. The goal was scored by ASC Diamaguène in the second half. They thus become the 2026 U17 champions of Zone 8A.
The second, the grand final, started at 8:30 p.m. The kick-off was given by the sponsor, Doune Pathé Mbengue, in the presence of Moussa Mbengue, president of zone 8A.
At halftime, the score was 0-0. It was in the second half that ASC Deggo scored their goal and held onto that score until the final whistle, which was hastened by rain. They thus won the 2026 Zone 8A Cup, defeating ASC Jappo 1-0.
"Youth is not just the future..."
Mr. Doune Pathé Mbengue, the mayor of Cambérène, is the natural patron of this sporting competition. In this capacity, he expressed his delight at the spirit of fair play displayed by the players. "It is an honor and a pleasure to be alongside the youth of Cambérène to participate in this wonderful final, which once again demonstrates the dynamism of Cambérène's youth," he emphasized, before commending the efforts of Zone 8A, which enabled its strong comeback after nearly eight years of suspension.
According to the Director General of the Autonomous Port of Dakar (PAD), youth is not just the future. "Youth is not just the future, it is also the present. And this is justified by demographics, which compel us to understand that a large part of the population is young. Therefore, this country cannot be built without its youth, and the President of the Republic, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, has understood this," asserted Doune Pathé Mbengue.
He adds: "It is precisely in this spirit that we are acting. We want to be among those leaders who will work to ensure that public policies reach young people. Because the concerns of young people are the concerns of Senegal. We want to work to ensure that all the needs expressed by these young people are fully addressed."
A spirit of fair play after years of suspension
It's worth remembering that Zone 8A was suspended for nearly eight years, failing to participate in the Navétanes (local youth football tournaments). However, since its return, it has been playing a leading role, according to the sponsor, who points out that this final was held even before the start of the school year and, above all, that the spirit of fair play prevailed, not only for the local teams but also for all the teams that mobilized to honor their presence in this popular championship.
