Ndiassane Gamou: Authorities strengthen preparations for a secure event

Meeting this Wednesday at the Thiès governorate, the regional development committee (CRD) chaired by Governor Saër Ndao reviewed the measures to be implemented to ensure the smooth running of the Gamou of Ndiassane.

At the end of the meeting, several priorities were identified, particularly in the areas of health, water and electricity supply, sanitation, security and traffic.

Based on the findings of the Ndiassane Departmental Development Committee (CDD), the governor indicated that the main concerns relate to strengthening health services, electricity, and access to drinking water. He advocated for an increase in the funding allocated to the organization.

Saër Ndao also stressed the need to strengthen food safety. He called for increased mobilization of the hygiene department and more frequent awareness campaigns. He specifically recommended avoiding the transport of prepared meals to the holy city, a practice that often leads to food poisoning.

From a security standpoint, the authorities are planning a reinforced security operation involving the police and the gendarmerie to ensure the safety of pilgrims before, during, and after the Gamou. Special checks will also be carried out on the main roads to prevent accidents.

Speaking on behalf of the Caliph General of Ndiassane, Khalifa Ababacar Kounta relayed several recommendations from the religious leader. He notably emphasized the need to increase the financial allocation for organizing the Gamou. He also called for improved sanitation, noting that the Gamou takes place during the rainy season.

Khalifa Ababacar Kounta also stressed the need to improve the electricity supply. He called on the government to pay greater attention to Ndiassane and requested the rehabilitation of roads to facilitate the movement of pilgrims and the transport of goods.

Finally, the authorities called for close coordination between state services and the organizing committee to ensure smooth communication, anticipate difficulties and provide quick responses throughout the preparations for Gamou.
