Grand Magal 2026: The High Authority of the Waqf pays a courtesy and working visit to Touba

As the Grand Magal, commemorating the exile of Sheikh Ahmadou Bamba Khadimou Rassoul, approaches, the Director General of the High Authority of Waqf (HAW), Dr. Ahmed Lamine Athie, paid a courtesy and working visit to Touba yesterday, leading a large delegation. As is customary, the HAW is making a significant contribution to the organization of this major religious event.

Dr. Athie was received by the general khalifa of the Mourides, Serigne Mountakha Mbacké, who expressed his satisfaction before offering prayers on his behalf.

“We sought prayers from the general caliph of the Mourides for the success of our mission to HAW, as well as for that of the state authorities and the Senegalese people. We prayed for a Senegal of peace and prosperity. We also took the opportunity to visit our strategic partners, including the Touba Ça Kanam association and the Hizbut Tarqiyya dahira,” he said.

Renewal of a strategic partnership with Hizbut Tarqiyya

Dr. Athie's trip is part of an annual tradition observed during preparations for the Grand Magal. However, this year's visit also has an institutional dimension, with a stop at the headquarters of the Dahira Hizbut Tarqiyya to renew the partnership agreement between the High Authority of Waqf and this institution.

“The Dahira Hizbut Tarqiyya has solid experience in the fields of education, solidarity, socio-economic engagement and community development, relying on the Waqf instrument for all its actions. It is therefore natural that the High Authority of Waqf, as the institution in charge of this instrument, works to normalize and strengthen relations between our two structures,” explained the Director General.

He recalled that this agreement, signed three years ago, must now be consolidated and made more strategic in order to serve the common objectives of the two institutions.

Among the key aspects of this renewed partnership, Dr. Athie cited:

strengthening the understanding of the Waqf concept among the population, through awareness-raising and communication, using the platforms and channels available to Hizbut Tarqiyya;

supporting the institution in setting up Waqf investment projects and impact Waqf projects.

“This approach aligns with the philosophy and spirit of the Waqf, which echo the teachings of the revered founder: work (liggéey), knowledge, community service (khidma), and solidarity (alidma). We are therefore here for this institutional mission, but also to support the preparations for this year’s Grand Magal,” concluded the Director General of HAW.
