Inégalités de genre : Thiès plaide pour une approche inclusive du développement
In Senegal, gender considerations remain insufficient in territorial planning processes, a situation that the authorities consider to be an obstacle to the development of territories.
In light of this situation, integrating a gender perspective into public policies is destined to become a key lever for ensuring more equitable and sustainable development. It is with this in mind that stakeholders met in Thiès to discuss integrating gender considerations into territorial planning tools.
President of this activity, Ababacar Sadikh Niang, Deputy Governor of Thiès, stressed that the territorialization of public policies cannot produce the expected results without an effective consideration of the principles of equity and gender equality.
According to him, territorial development plans, which will guide the priorities of the territorial hubs, must integrate the realities, needs and expectations of all components of the population in order to promote inclusive development.
Ababacar Sadikh Niang also noted that persistent inequalities in access to resources, basic services, and economic and social opportunities continue to hinder territorial development. He argued that responses must no longer be limited to actions targeting only women, but must be part of a cross-cutting gender approach, integrated into all stages of planning, from territorial assessment to the monitoring and evaluation of public policies.
