Unsanitary conditions at the Thiès bus station: The regional hygiene brigade raises its voice and announces sanctions

The head of the regional hygiene brigade of Thiès, Captain Armand Seck, made a worrying observation of the unsanitary state of the Thiès bus station at the end of the cleaning day organized this Saturday by the Association of Workers of the Thiès region.

According to him, this operation comes at a time marked by the approach of the Grand Magal of Touba, the rainy season, and the Gamous festivals, periods of high population density. "We found the garage in an alarming state. In collaboration with the Thiès Workers' Association, we carried out this activity to raise awareness about hygiene, food safety, environmental protection, and road accident prevention," he explained.

Captain Seck, however, pointed out the uncivil behavior of some users. "People park their vehicles to urinate underneath them, even though there are toilets in the bus station. Admittedly, they are insufficient, but that doesn't justify urinating everywhere. It is absolutely essential to organize and raise awareness among users," he insisted.

Following this initial cleaning phase, an assessment will be carried out to identify the needs for water supply, sanitation, waste management and sanitary infrastructure, including the number of toilets required based on the station's usage.

For Captain Seck, this approach will make it possible to develop an action plan to sustainably improve the hygiene conditions of the site.

The brigade chief also announced the upcoming establishment of a health, safety, and working conditions committee, as well as a sanitation committee. These bodies will be responsible for raising awareness among station staff and ensuring regular monitoring.

Finally, Captain Armand Seck warned that if awareness campaigns do not produce the desired results, sanctions will be applied. "For the moment, we are prioritizing awareness. But if the problem persists, we will be forced to apply the regulations in force, particularly those relating to hygiene enforcement," he cautioned.
