JOJ Dakar 2026 : le plan de circulation de la Corniche présenté par le Commissaire principal Idrissa Thiandoum
The traffic plan for the Corniche, which will be subject to restrictions from tonight, was presented by Chief Police Commissioner Idrissa Thiandoum, commander of the urban corps of the central police station of Dakar, in a video transmitted to Seneweb.
Prefectural decree no. 393 of October 21, 2026
“I thank you for the opportunity to speak on Prefectural Order No. 393 of October 21, 2026, relating to the traffic plan put in place to allow people to move around the sites where the Youth Olympic Games (YOG) will take place, particularly on the Corniche,” said Chief Police Commissioner Idrissa Thiandoum.
Restrictions on the Corniche Ouest
“Regarding the Corniche Ouest, measures have been taken. These include traffic restrictions to allow for the installation of equipment, the training activities of athletes, and the dismantling of facilities once the events are over. These measures specifically concern the organization of the cycling event,” he explained.
The closure schedule
The urban police commander then detailed the dates and times: “Traffic will be restricted on the Corniche on the following dates and times: the night of November 3-4, from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.; the night of November 4-5, from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.; the night of November 5-6, from 10 p.m. to 3 a.m.; November 6-7, 2026, from 10 p.m. to 4 p.m.; November 8, 2026, from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and from 3 p.m. on November 9 to 4 p.m. on November 10.”
He stated: "During all these closure periods, traffic will be diverted and redirected to facilitate the movement of users."
Diversion routes
“Vehicles coming from Ngor and Almadies will be diverted from the Mamelles roundabout. They will have to use the underpass, pass by the African Renaissance Monument, then exit via the Ouakam road to continue their journey towards the city via Cheikh Anta Diop Avenue.”
“For vehicles coming from the city center and taking the Corniche, the diversion will be set up at the Rectorate roundabout. They will be directed towards the FN41, in the direction of the Fann-Résidence area.”
“From Fann Résidence, several options will be available to motorists. Barriers and agents will be positioned on site to guide them. They will be able to take Léon-Gontran-Damas Street, exit via FN29, then join Aimé Césaire Street. They can then turn right to reach Cheikh Anta Diop Avenue and continue their journey towards the city center,” he added.
The residents on the seaside
“As for those residing along the Corniche, on the seaside, they will be able to leave their homes and reach Cheikh Anta Diop Avenue, notably by crossing the Atépa bridge, then exit via Estel Mermoz. They can also pass by the President Léopold Sédar Senghor Museum and reach Cheikh Anta Diop Avenue by taking Léon-Frébounis Street.”
Parking restrictions and exceptions
“Furthermore, parking will be prohibited on certain roads designated for the diversion routes. This prohibition notably concerns the FN41, the FN23D, the rue Léon-Gontran-Damas, the FN29 and the rue Aimé-Césaire.”
“However, exceptions will be granted to emergency vehicles. Vehicles of the Defense and Security Forces will also benefit from these exceptions to allow them to intervene at any time.”
Chief Superintendent of Police Idrissa Thiandoum concluded: “Finally, vehicles accredited by the Youth Olympic Games Organizing Committee (COJOJ), which are involved in organizing the event, will be authorized to circulate on the roads concerned. Special arrangements will be made to allow them to pass after verification of their accreditation.”
