Lack of incubators, digitalization, pediatric cardiology: the challenges facing Saint Jean de Dieu Hospital

Manque de couveuses, digitalisation, cardiologie pédiatrique : les défis de l'hôpital Saint Jean de Dieu

The receipt of a donation of medical equipment from the Israeli Embassy in Senegal has brought relief to the maternity ward of Saint John of God Hospital in Thiès. However, despite this positive development, hospital officials emphasize the numerous ongoing challenges that continue to hinder improvements in patient care.

According to the Administrator of the Diocese of Thiès, Monsignor Albert Sène, this donation meets a real need of the maternity ward, which has been facing a shortage of essential medical equipment for several years.

"The medical equipment at Saint Jean de Dieu Hospital in Thiès was insufficient. Sometimes, pregnant women would arrive at the maternity ward and find themselves facing a lack of incubators or suitable equipment for childbirth," he explained.

This situation posed a real challenge for healthcare staff, who often had to cope with high demand with limited resources. The new equipment will therefore improve the conditions for welcoming and caring for pregnant women and newborns.

But for hospital officials, the needs go far beyond strengthening the medical facilities. The institution now aims to modernize its operations through the implementation of a digital service system.

"The hospital needs a digital system to facilitate patient access and provide faster service," said Monsignor Albert Sène.

Another major priority is the care of children suffering from heart disease. The diocese hopes to receive support in this area in order to offer more solutions to families facing these often costly and complex conditions.

While expressing his gratitude to the Israeli embassy, the religious leader hopes that this support will continue in other strategic sectors. This is an encouraging prospect, especially since the ambassador has already indicated his willingness to support the diocese in new projects.
