Réception des chantiers des JOJ 2026 : « Notre satisfaction entière ne saurait se limiter à réceptionner des infrastructures », (Diomaye Faye)
The President of the Republic, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, said he was fully satisfied with the state of the infrastructure visited as part of the preparations for the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games (YOG). While praising the efforts made to meet the deadlines, the Head of State recalled that the acceptance of the works is only one step and that other challenges remain to be met.
At the end of his visit to several infrastructures intended to host the competitions of the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games (YOG), the Head of State, Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye, expressed his satisfaction with the quality of the work carried out.
He first wanted to thank all the actors who contributed to the realization of these infrastructures, with a special mention for the French Development Agency (AFD) and the French government, whose support in the preparation of this international sporting event he highlighted.
Bassirou Diomaye Faye also highlighted the contribution of companies and service providers from various backgrounds, particularly Chinese companies. He praised "remarkable work," which he also considers an illustration of the quality of relations between Senegal and China. "We were indeed far from the results we see today," he proudly stated.
The President of the Republic particularly emphasized the spectacular progress of the work over the past few months. Recalling that he had made an initial site visit on November 2, 2025, followed by another at the beginning of April, he believes that the progress made since then is considerable.
"We were indeed far from the result I saw today," he noted, highlighting the commitment of the teams mobilized to enable the delivery of the infrastructure within the agreed timeframe.
The Head of State expressed his "complete satisfaction" following the completion of the two sites he visited. He also commended the efforts made by the various stakeholders and their "sense of patriotism," believing that this mobilization allows Senegal to meet a challenge that transcends its borders.
"It is Africa that is hosting"
For Bassirou Diomaye Faye, the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games are indeed a continental event. "We have said that Africa is the host, and we are committed to ensuring that Africa hosts them under the best possible conditions," he declared. He also congratulated the Minister of Infrastructure and his colleague in charge of Youth and Sports for their involvement in the process.
He also gave special mention to the Organising Committee of the Youth Olympic Games (COJOP) and the Senegalese National Olympic and Sports Committee (CNOSS), praising the availability of their teams, the monitoring of operations and the regular reports of missions carried out in Senegal and abroad.
Diomaye Faye remains demanding: "We cannot achieve partial success." Despite this satisfaction, the head of state refuses to consider the completion of the infrastructure as an end in itself.
He recalls that several challenges remain and that the final evaluation can only take place at the end of the Games, when all of the commitments made by Senegal have been respected. "Our complete satisfaction cannot be limited to receiving infrastructure that has been handed over, but to delivering at the end of the Games on all of our commitments, from the opening ceremony to the closing ceremony," he warned.
The President of the Republic clarified that his satisfaction expressed at the end of this visit pertained solely to the inspected facilities. He asserted that he would remain "particularly demanding" regarding the rest of the project. "We cannot achieve partial success," he emphasized, believing that true satisfaction would come when Senegal had fulfilled all of its commitments in accordance with the specifications agreed upon with the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
Commending the commitment of local authorities to the success of this project, he congratulated the Minister of Infrastructure, Dethie Fall, for the work accomplished, as well as the local elected officials mobilized alongside the State. He cited the presence of Mayor Abass, as well as that of the Mayor of Point E, for their involvement and support in the construction of the infrastructure intended to host the competitions of the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games.
For him, this collective mobilization, involving the government, local authorities and all partners, illustrates the common commitment to making Dakar 2026 a success for Senegal and for Africa.
With the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games just a few months away, the completion of these facilities represents a major milestone. However, for President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, the real challenge remains successfully organizing the entire event, from the opening ceremony to the closing of the Games.
