Relations between Bour Sine and Serigne Touba: Professor Arona Coumba Ndoffène Diouf revisits a historical testimony

The Darou Manan district of Touba hosted the Magal Bour Sine commemorative ceremony on Saturday, June 13, 2026, dedicated to remembering the historic meeting between Serigne Touba, founder of Mouridism, and Bour Sine Coumba Ndoffène Fandép Diouf. The event brought together numerous religious and traditional authorities, including Serigne Cheikh Awa Balla Mbacke ibn Serigne Fallou and Dr. Ameth Khalifa Niass, as well as several Mouride dignitaries and notables from the Sine region.

On this occasion, Professor Arona Coumba Ndoffène Diouf, economist and grandson of Bour Sine, revisited the importance of this historical testimony which remains one of the strongest symbols of the relations between the Kingdom of Sine and the founder of Mouridism.

In his speech, he recalled that on June 7, 1903, when Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba was the subject of accusations by the French colonial administration, Bour Sine Coumba Ndoffène Fandép Diouf chose to testify in his favor before the colonial authorities.

The Serer sovereign then affirmed that Serigne Touba was a man of peace, exclusively dedicated to religious teaching and spiritual education. This testimony is now considered an act of courage and truth in the history of Senegal.

Professor Diouf emphasized that this historical legacy continues to inspire current generations. According to him, the relationship between the royal family of Sine and the Mouride community is based on shared values of respect, justice, truth, and peaceful coexistence.

This edition of the Magal Bour Sine was also marked by prayers and testimonies recalling the spiritual and historical significance of this relationship between two major figures in Senegalese history.
