Back to school 2026-2027: Thiès shows satisfactory results from the very first day

The 2026-2027 school year is off to a promising start in the Thiès region. Following a tour of several schools, the deputy governor of Thiès, Ababacar Sadikh Niang, expressed his satisfaction with the presence of teachers and students from the very first day, believing that the "Oubi tey, Jang tey" concept has been implemented on the ground.

"What we have observed so far is satisfactory. Whether it is the teachers or the students, everyone has responded to the call. We have a satisfactory attendance rate," he said.

The administrative authorities commended the work of local stakeholders in the region, congratulating them for their contribution to the resumption of classes. Special recognition was given to the leaders of the Thiès Region Workers' Association, who, through their civic actions, contributed to the rehabilitation and repair of thousands of desks and benches to improve students' learning conditions.

Ababacar Sadikh Niang also invited the learners to make good use of the school materials made available to them and to preserve a healthy environment, conducive to development and excellence.

Beyond this resumption deemed satisfactory, the deputy governor called on the entire educational community to redouble their efforts to meet the challenges related to the effective resumption of teaching in all establishments in the region, but also to ensure their regular operation throughout the 2026-2027 school year.

In both urban and rural areas, the overall situation is considered satisfactory by administrative authorities. According to Ababacar Sadikh Niang, the necessary arrangements have been made to ensure the essential preparations are complete in schools.

Weeding, disinfection and rainwater pumping operations were carried out in particular to provide students and teachers with an environment conducive to the resumption of classes.

The deputy governor believes that the conditions are now in place for a full resumption of classes in schools in the Thiès region. The challenge now will be to maintain this momentum throughout the school year.
