Security, hygiene, water, electricity: The urgent needs of the upcoming Gamou in Keur Mame Elhadji

Meeting this Wednesday around the governor of Thiès Saër Ndao, the regional development committee (CRD) examined the measures to be implemented to ensure the smooth running of the next Gamou of Keur Mame Elhadji, in the city of Thiès.

At the end of the meeting, several priorities were identified, particularly in the areas of health, water, electricity, sanitation, public lighting, security and traffic.

Speaking on behalf of the Caliph General of Keur Mame Elhadji, Serigne Ousseynou Ndièguène conveyed several recommendations from the religious leader. These focused primarily on the safety, hygiene, and healthcare of pilgrims. He also emphasized the need to improve the electricity supply and called on the government to pay greater attention to the holy city.

For his part, the governor confirmed that the main concerns relate to strengthening health services, access to drinking water and the provision of electricity.

Saër Ndao also emphasized the health and safety of pilgrims. He called for increased mobilization of hygiene services and strengthened awareness campaigns.

From a security standpoint, a reinforced security plan is in place, involving the mobilization of the police, the gendarmerie, and the Community Safety Assistance Agency (ASP). These law enforcement agencies will be responsible for ensuring the safety of pilgrims before, during, and after the Gamou. Increased surveillance of major roads is also planned to prevent traffic accidents.

The authorities emphasized the need for close coordination between the various state services and the organizing committee. The goal is to ensure effective communication, anticipate potential difficulties, and provide rapid responses to problems that may arise during the preparations and execution of the Gamou.
