Thiès : Le PDS célèbre le centenaire d'Abdoulaye Wade dans la division et appelle à l'unité autour de Karim Wade
Officials, activists, and supporters of the Senegalese Democratic Party (PDS) in Thiès celebrated the centenary of their national secretary general and former president, Abdoulaye Wade, this Saturday. The commemoration, however, was marked by internal divisions, with two separate ceremonies: one organized by Mor Diouf's faction in front of the PDS headquarters in the Carrière district, and the other by Ndiaga Diaw's faction in a hall in the Randoulène district.
Despite this situation, the various demonstrations provided moments of reunion, communion and reflection for liberal activists.
On this occasion, several speakers paid a vibrant tribute to the former head of state by reviewing the main achievements of his tenure, both in economic, social and infrastructural terms and in terms of democratic values.
They particularly praised his role in strengthening Senegalese democracy, promoting equality among citizens, and his commitment to women's rights.
PDS officials also highlighted the contribution of the "Pope of Sopi" to the establishment of parity and the empowerment of women in Senegalese society.
Taking advantage of this celebration, party leaders called for the mobilization of all members in anticipation of upcoming political events. They emphasized the need to strengthen unity and cohesion within the party in order to prepare for regaining power.
In the same vein, liberal leaders invited activists and sympathizers to support Karim Wade's candidacy in the next presidential election, believing that he remains the party's natural candidate to carry out its future ambitions.
