Recalé à cause de sa marque de prière, un candidat à la police rétabli dans ses droits
In 2021, Adam's dream of becoming a police officer was abruptly shattered. A candidate for the position of deputy police officer at the Paris police headquarters, his application was rejected following the preliminary administrative investigation.
The reason given by the administration is "a tabâa," a mark sometimes visible on the foreheads of devout Muslims who regularly practice prayer. According to the police, this mark was deemed "incompatible with the principle of neutrality" required for service in the force.
Five years later, there's been a reversal. In a decision issued on July 27, 2026, the Council of State overturned this refusal. The highest administrative judges ruled that an application cannot be rejected solely on this basis. Adam is now authorized to reapply, according to Le Parisien .
