Grand rassemblement du Front syndical de défense du travail à Thiès : Un chapelet de contestations majeures
On tour in the regions of Senegal to raise awareness and share with its members the updated action plan from September 8, 2026, the Trade Union Front for the Defense of Labor (FSDT) plans to organize a major meeting on Wednesday, September 23, at the headquarters of the National Confederation of Workers of Senegal (CNTS) in Thiès.
With slogans like "Stronger together to defend our rights" and "Together for decent work and better-guaranteed rights," the FSDT has indeed intensified its mobilization. Following the recent announcement of a three-day general strike, scheduled for October 21-23, 2026, the regional meeting in Thiès remains a key step in the union leaders' action plan.
According to its leaders, the main objective is to mobilize the grassroots around the major protests brought by the FSDT. Regarding the reform of the Labor Code, they denounce the adoption of the draft laws scheduled for mid-August 2026 without prior consultation, particularly deploring the extension of fixed-term contracts (CDD) to up to four years.
On the governance of social protection, the trade unionists say they oppose the changes affecting IPRES and the Social Security Fund (CSS), which they describe as threats to the management autonomy of these structures.
The leaders are also calling for the reopening of a tripartite social dialogue (state, employers, unions) to protect the dignity and purchasing power of workers.
