«Je faisais beaucoup d’actions sociales sans toucher à l’argent de l’État" : Quand la veuve de Sékou Touré livrait son testament moral
Guinea mourns the passing of Hadja Andrée Touré, former First Lady of the Republic, who died on July 8, 2026. She leaves behind the reputation of a discreet yet committed woman who preferred her work to the limelight. Shortly before her death, the widow of former President Ahmed Sékou Touré gave an interview to a local media outlet in which she spoke about her moral legacy, in particular.

When asked about the legacy she wished to leave after her death, she humbly replied: "I want to be at peace with my conscience. I want to serve." A sentence that sums up a whole life turned towards others and not towards herself.
Her social commitment has left its mark on generations of Guinean women. Hadja Andrée Touré made the advancement of women her primary cause. She financed and built vocational training centers, often without resorting to public funds.
“I didn’t take money from the state. When I did social work, I sought out the funding,” she confided. Supported by a network of women from Guinea and the diaspora, she enabled hundreds of young girls to learn a trade, gain independence, and rebuild their lives.
Beyond her works, Hadja Andrée Touré leaves behind a maxim: "Never cheat. Know that you live by the key of your body. That's how I've lived my whole life."
For her, heritage was not a title, but women standing tall and a peaceful conscience.
