Thiès : Le SAT/Santé dénonce la dégradation des conditions de travail à l'hôpital régional et exige des mesures urgentes
The Autonomous Union of Health Workers (SAT/Santé) of the Thiès Regional Hospital organized a sit-in this Friday, July 17, 2026, to denounce the deterioration of working conditions and the difficulties affecting patient care.
In his speech, the union's general secretary, Ibrahima Mbaye, indicated that this mobilization was not driven by a spirit of confrontation or a circumstantial approach, but by the desire to defend workers and the right of populations to access quality care.
The SAT/Health deplores in particular the lack of equipment and reagents, the cessation of ultrasounds, the difficulties encountered in the laboratory, the malfunctions of the emergency reception service (SAU) as well as those of the consignment sale, all problems which, according to the union, seriously disrupt the operation of the establishment.
The union also raised several social demands, including the payment of childcare allowances, the situation of trainees, issues related to pre-employment and the non-replacement of agents who have retired.
Regarding the NEPAD program, the SAT/Health union denounced selection criteria that it considers contrary to the principles of legality, transparency, and fairness. According to the union, qualified workers were excluded without justification in favor of other candidates. It is therefore calling for a review of the selection criteria to guarantee fair treatment for all staff.
The union also expressed concern about the hospital's administrative organization. It believes that the combined roles of head of the administrative and financial department (SAF) and head of the human resources department (RH) create confusion of responsibilities and hinder effective human resource management. It demands that each manager's responsibilities be clearly defined in accordance with applicable regulations.
The SAT/Health also denounced a lack of transparency in certain markets, particularly those relating to medical equipment, believing that this situation contributes to equipment shortages and the recurring, sometimes partial, shutdown of ultrasounds.
At the end of its intervention, the union demanded a review of the NEPAD program criteria, a clarification of administrative governance, the satisfaction of the social and professional demands of the workers, as well as the provision of the equipment, consumables and reagents essential for the proper functioning of the hospital.
While reaffirming its commitment to dialogue, the SAT/Health warned that it would remain mobilized until concrete answers were obtained to its demands.
